While this isn’t cover news, in the spirit of the sub, I’d like submit the work of Douglas Dixon, who wrote several books, including the bestiary After Man in 1981, about how the animal world would evolve after the end of human civilization.     Facinating! Thanks, this definitely fits. I haven’t read Douglas Dixon before.

    Some of those animal names make me think he influenced Margaret Attwood’s Oryx and Crake, which has Pigoons.

      Glad you like it! He very may well have influenced Atwood - it was widely considered visionary when released. This book was a huge deal when I was a kid - one of my best memories was finding a copy of it at the [Exploratorium[(https://www.exploratorium.edu/) gift shop in San Francisco. I read that book so much the pages fell out.

        My library doesn’t have it, but I’ll look out for a copy. I like taxonomies; imaginary ones especially.
