You broke the rules with a bait post. You got told off. You then posted this TWELVE times in unrelated communities hoping for support. Each one has a mass of downvotes. Stop trying to play the victim and just take the damn L.

I’m assuming the mods didn’t think the question was asked in good faith, but rather a “troll” question. I suspect the same, just like how this post seems more like a complaint than advice.

If you are genuinely curious, I’d advise either looking up the history of authoritarianism or re-framing your question.

I don’t think they’re actually curious. They’ve already had this exact discussion on Ye Power Tripping Bastards hours ago, and they’re apparently trying to drum up sympathy on as many subs as possible while playing the victim. Go look at their recent post history.

If they have time to spam multiple subs over the course of many hours and didn’t even take the time to look it up on Wikipedia themselves, they’re obviously not that interested in learning something and more interested in pushing some kind of agenda while feigning ignorance.

    You broke community rule 5:

And in the process broke rule 1:

    Resulting in expected behavior:

It’s obviously not bait otherwise any of the following may be considered same.

And quit telling me I didn’t want genuine discussion.

Rule 5: “bait users into ideological wars”.

You directly broke rule five, and because your question was disingenous, that broke rule 1.

Sorry you’re butthurt over it. Get over it and move on.

I could point to any number post that prove my post was innoculous but you don’t want to hear that. You know the real controversy “authoritarianism = bad”

“based on reports and the opinion of our crack moderation team”.

Again, you broke rule 5, deal with it and move on. Your other posts whining about this are already earning you removals and bans.

You’re defying the goal of the group by asking a quite stupid question. Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, etc. They caused a lot of suffering, destroyed the foundations of democracy for their own gain, and you’re at the whims of if someone knows what they’re doing, because they consult almost nobody.

Yeah, but it amounts to asking “why is slavery bad?” You can understand why people, mostly as it is rising across the world, aren’t exactly happy that it’s even a question.

I said it’s a stupid question, not that you’re stupid BTW. But a quick Wikipedia read is enough to see that it’s not good news that many countries are kinda heading that way.

Using authoritarianism to silence the question is not the win you seem to think it is. This shit is gross

Authoritarianism is by the leader of a state or a territory, not by some random dude on Lemmy. Seriously go read the Wikipedia page at least.

              It starts with us.

I came here to get away from censorship, not join it. We need places for open discussion but I’m starting to see that this isn’t it either.

This was an opportunity to actually have a discussion about the topic and reinforce virtues of freedom, but it is doing the opposite and illustrating the descent to authoritarianism.

Removing CSAM is censorship. Removing hatespeech is censorship. What you call censorship is just moderation, and it’s necessary.

Libertarian free speech is a pipe dream, and trying to implement it always ends up giving a platform to bad actors like Nazis and child predators. Nobody here wants to recreate 4chan and 8chan except people who have an agenda.

OP appeared to break the rules and then followed up in that same community with a snarky jab at the moderators, rather than having a discussion with the mods like an adult.

Here. Witness the definitely earnest questions from OP that the mean ol’ moderators removed. /s

They’re intentionally hiding that bit, because they don’t want you to have a full picture of what they did and why they’re now spamming as many communities as possible to get sympathy.

I agree he wasn’t acting in good faith, but I’m more concerned with any would-be censorship than a silly troll. The moderator actually reached out to me and explained the scenario, and pointed out that they actually left one of their duplicate posts up.

I’m pretty happy with how the particular situation has gone down, but I do still stand by my initial comments and my principles on censorship.

Mods handled it appropriately and sealion is an idiot, misrepresenting the scenario. but that was a given.

Fine, start your own place for all the questions you want.
Which you can do here. Unlike in an authoritarian system.

We used to say the same thing about the internet as a whole, and then the big tech companies crowded out all the smaller options, started controlling narratives and we ended up where we are at now.

I don’t want to see the same thing happen with Lemmy instances. We are on the ground floor.

To be honest I think you all missed a great crack by the moderator being representative of an authority just banning the question as an answer in itself.

It’s a legitimate question. I also don’t think authoritarianism is inherently bad, I’d say I’m quite authoritarian where economics is concerned.
