I’ve got a Samsung galaxy s9+ with a broken screen. My idea was to use a hub like this to connect everything. My question is if I were to connect a powerbank to one of the usb c “outputs” would the hub draw power from it or would it try to charge it from the “master” device (ie. Smartphone)? And if it’s the latter, would putting the powerbank on the “input” cable for the hub cause the smarphone to be unable to controll other connected devices? Edit: Also if somebody had done something like that before, any hubs you can suggest?
Charging with a powerbank should work depending on the dock but if you pick one where power is supplied via USB C you should be fine. Note that there are also dedicated Samsung Dex docks out there.
I’ve looked at what dex docs are avaliable on my local e-bay equivalent, and they’re more expensive with less ports avaliable (Usually it’s 1x usb c, 1x usb 3.0 1x hdmi). I want at least keyboard, trackball, and power bank for usb ports (I might need another one to power the display)
Does the dock/hub support pass through power/charging?
Literally nobody can answer this question without knowing the EXACT dock and it’s specs. If it doesn’t support power delivery, (usb PD) then the default answer will always be no
Thanks and I’m an idiot, I should’ve included this from the get go. Here’s the description: “Type: 8in1 Interface: USB-C Connectors: USB-C, USB-C PowerDelivery, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, HDMI, SD/TF card reader, RJ-45 (LAN) Charging: 100W - 20V/5A Data transmission: USB 3.0 5Gb/s Wired connectivity: RJ-45 100 Mbps External Display Support: Up to 4K/30Hz Finish: aluminium Colour: grey/silver Dimensions: 155 x 30 x 10 (mm)(W, D, H) Cable length: 14 cm Manufacturer code: PWHA006” That’s all, nothing conclusive and there’s no manufacturer to go off of
It says USB c power delivery, so most likely. But does it deliver power to every port, or only to the USB c…who knows. It at least states power delivery so it’s there somewhere.
Worst case, return it
Yeah I’m just buy it and retur if it doesn’t work
