Does anyone here do their gaming on an SBC or hardware emulation machine? I’m considering trying to start an instance for these machines and am curious if there’s much desire
There’s a small one on lemmy.ml
Shit idk why I didn’t see that. Perfect happy to join and contribute

There’s also one on this instance https://lemmy.world/c/sbcgaming
Maybe you were searching for the whole term? Maybe search was local vs all? Who knows community searches can be wonky.
I’m really into these machines, particularly Anbernic and Retroid. I’m already in the linked group and on the Retro Handhelds Discord. Hoping to see content here!
I’m interested in joining, the retroid link you posted is giving me a 404 though
Pi 3B+ and RG351V here reporting in. They’re decent, although I think a Steam Deck with dock and desktop PC ran like a HTPC to your TV are probably a better setup if you’re willing to put more time into it.
I have to admit every time I see one I really get the urge to buy one. But personally I prefer buying older systems and putting emulators on them. The PSP is a classic for instance.
I don’t know if be happy or be sad for you, but one thing I know, you can’t own only one!
I have an Anbernic RG351MP. It’s nice. I use it on the subway when commuting. That’s already 2 years old. If you were buying new, I’d get one of the current models.
There already is SBC [email protected].
I used to run entire tournaments off of sbc’s, actually. I used an Odroid N2 at the time.
We ran two different tourneys: one where each match is a different fighting game, and a more generalized tournament with a broad amount of genres. It’s a fun use case for them.
I use RG280V for games up to PS1 and my Phone with telescopic controller for harder to run games.
I had a pi2 years ago that broke. I got out of that when emulation handhelds got big. The pi is way to expensive now but I have considered getting one of the cheaper knock offs.
I do a lot of emulation and gaming currently on three portable devices:
- Powkiddy X55 - 8, 16, and 32 bit, plus various ports like Doom, Duke Nukem, Fallout, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, others.
- 2DS XL - NDS and 3DS. Some GBA and 8/16 bit, but the Powkiddy took over a lot of that.
- Samsung Tab S7 FE tablet - Dreamcast, PS2, Gamecube, and native Android games and ports.
I’m surprised how much mileage I get out of these devices, and how little I turn on my gaming PC these days.
I managed to beat Cyberpunk on my rpi 4 (Thanks to GeforceNOW), so eeeeeehhhh they are doable.
I have an OrangePi Zero 2 setup as a console under my TV. The zero 3 just came out and it $15. Does all 16 bit consoles, can run Linux or android (android works better for emulator)
Anyways I’ll join if you make a !SBCgaming or something like that.
So there’s this one which isn’t super active but I’ve been trying to drop shit in it every now and then
