I see you posted this article to 3 communities. According to the comments on this post if you use the cross post function (in the default web frontend), it will only show once in the feeds instead of 3 times (which can be a bit annoying).

    Thanks

EDIT: post link and aclaration regarding the UI

I’m not using lemmy and that link tried to download something, so I’ll stick with what I’m doing, thanks.

Just to clarify that there is no bad intention, the comment says:

If people would use the lemmy cross posting functionality it would only show up once.

And it’s commenting on a post with this image:

They’re probably using kbin, not sure if it has that function too.

The thing is though, just today I saw in another group someone complaining that someone had posting an article to multiple groups…but it was the only time I had seen it. Another commenter mentioned how not everyone is in the same groups, and not everyone is seeing something multiple times. You might be in all those groups, but there will be folks like I was this morning who’s only following one of them and one sees one.

And the point is moot anyway because I can’t exactly use lemmy’s cross posting feature if I’m on kbin.

My bad, I didn’t realize you were from Kbin. I don’t know how it works there.

Another commenter mentioned how not everyone is in the same groups, and not crime is seeing something multiple times.

Sure, I don’t complain about sending the same post to multiple communities. On the contrary, I encourage it! And thanks for generating content, that helps all of us.

I was just trying to help with the cluttering of the feed.

It’s not generating content though - 4 copies of a link is the same content as 1 copy of the link. And because it’s in 4 places, the comment section of each is diluted.

                It’s not generating content though

We can agree in that it’s not generating 4 different posts. What I mean is that they are posting (more than zero posts) and I find that good for growing the fediverse.

because it’s in 4 places, the comment section of each is diluted.

AFAIK crossposting is not different in that regard (but maybe that’s not what you implied, or maybe I’m wrong).

EDIT: Indeed, the comment in this post is not visible in its crossposts (one - two).

…ok, I have no idea how my swiping keyboard got “crime” instead of “everyone,” wow. That’s amazing.

              And no worries!
