So like the tittle says. I have a pihole running at home which blocks loads of ads and also the google add service. Which worked flawless for me and my family. But recently I got a load of complains that not a single link was working. This is odd. and i go and look at my dads browser and since about i week 99% of all search results are sponsored links. What is also strange is that it are about 5 to 6 links per page. almost exclusively the sponsored links. Now i never have this issue not even when using google.com But i am using firefox Which does not seem to get so many sponsored links. And shows a load more results per page on google.com.

Any idea what is going on here and if their is a fix? I get that my family does not want to make the switch to firefox. How unfortunate that is.

instead of a pihole try ublock origin chrome extension for ad blocking, although it might not work for long because of future changes

This has no effect in this matter. as 99% of the results are sponsored links aka ads. That is the issue. Ublock would remove them and then he only has like 1 result on a page. I use both pihole and ublock. (ublock was disabled for testing purposes)

The internet has just sucked recently, huh. I’ve been having the same issues, google searching is harder than it used to be.

trying to block google ads on google chrome is a loosing fight. The easiest is to just install LibreWolf. It has all adblocking stuff ready out of the box. But some sites might not work so you need to know how to whitelist cookies in the browser. Stop using google search, give duckduckgo a try. The results are fairly decent and you get one ad (which can be disabled as well)

I know about librewolf and alternative browsers. But my family is kinda glued on to using chrome. And getting them to change browser is kinda the last resort imo.

I understand. Then try installing ublock origin. Pihole is great and all but it cannot do as deep block as u block origin since pihole only blocks dns queries. Ublock origin will run scripts in the browser which a dns server cannot do.
