      • think about the content to post to, once lemmy goes back again
      • find and read some new and interesting D&D alternative
      • observe patiently how the BG3 download progresses
      • sketch the kind of a spaceship you want to assemble in Starfield, once it comes out
      • masturbate furiously to the newest episode of futanari.xxx
      • organize your library of files better
      • learn basic sign language
      • take online smartphone photography course

Given the community’s focus, doing all of above at once is an option too

I feel like, given the community’s focus (or lack thereof), wanting to do all of them but never managing to achieve any of them is also an option.

Trying and failing miserably counts as a progress too.

Is literally anything known about the source and motive of these attacks? Like, who could possibly want Lemmy down bad enough to put the time and resources and legal risk into a sustained DDOS campaign? I’m not an Infosec professional by any stretch, so maybe there are elements I’m not understanding here.

From what I have gathered on the L.W. Discord - which I also only regard as rumors at best:

      • It is not a sophisticated attack.
      • The attacker is persistent in switching avenues of attack upon closing them.
      • The attacker has not switched strategies, yet.
      • Probably asleep right now and unable to automate the above.

      Typical salty scriptkiddie.

      Motives might be:

      • got banned and/or defederated for any reason (probably a good one) and seeking revenge
      • disagreement over political stances
      • disagreement over moderation policy
      • disagreement over decentralised nature of the fediverse
      • just because

That all sounds pretty logical. Thanks for the explanation.
