I personally like harai goshi and tai otoshi, but my newest favorite throw gotta be sumi gaeshi from this position.
Ogoshi
I’m love a good foot sweep, I think my favorite has got to be sasae tsurikomi ashi.
I like taiotoshi. However, my training partners don’t appreciate it.
uchimata, tai otoshi, osoto gari
I’m really enjoying tsurikomi goshi right now just because it’s hard.
I can’t pick just one technique because newaza and tachiwaza techniques both have their own allure.
For tachiwaza, I love uchi mata and seoi nage. It is so satisfying to hit a big throw with a clean landing. In newaza, juji gatame is my go to.
I hate to admit it, but Tomeo Nage & Sumi Gaeshi (and tani otoshi).
Not because they’re what I want to use, but because they’re the throws that translate to judo best from my decade of jujutsu training. By the time I stepped into a judo club I had already done tomeo literally over 1000 times… sumi several hundred at least. Tani Otoshi we did a lot to but more from a standing back take into full mount drill.
When I first started judo I did a lot of sasae. Now that my sempais know not to go easy on me I’ve been forced to resort to sutemi against higher belts.
But I won’t stay here. I’m slowly figuring out how to chain ashi waza into nage waza… at which point I’m thinking I’ll be doing more harai/tai once it clicks.
Good sacrifice techniques are so slick, so don’t be shy about it. They are also a great setup for newaza!
