Let’s do the 30 Day Song Challenge, alternative music styles! Each day I’ll post the challenge and you share some of your favorite songs that meet the challenge!
LET’S GO!
Red Tide, Neko Case.
Yes!! Neko stans rise up!!
Would cut off my arm for Neko Case.
Fox Confessor, imo, is a true perfect masterpiece. @[email protected] <3
@ren @BonesOfTheMoon This fact is indisputable.
@BonesOfTheMoon @ren I adore Neko
And she’s so funny and such a great writer too.
Blackstar - David Bowie
Blue in Green - Miles Davis
Pink Moon - Nick Drake
Pink + white - Frank Ocean
Yellow Ledbetter - Pearl Jam
Tangled up in Blue - Bob Dylan
Sorry if these aren’t “alternative” still trying to figure out what that really means but I’m not sure I’d call any of these inside the modern mainsteam.
Pink moon, pink and white, and yellow Ledbetter are all songs I love on various playlists of mine. I’ll have to give the other songs you suggested a listen!
Here’s two with the color pink! First from one of my favorite bands.
Second one is probably not considered alternative but whatever I like it because it’s basically an Andre 3000 song.
An even better candidate…
Eskimo Joe - Black Fingernails, Red Wine
@ren Goldfrapp - Crystalline Green (2003)
I’m surprised no one dropped this one.
Paint it, Black - Rolling Stones
totally, that “cali” sound always has a summery vibe to it, Blue album really captures it well with those fuzzy d-tuned power chords.
True! But I was actually thinking like Blue Monday, Blue (Jayhawks), No Blue Sky, When the Stars Go Blue, Bullet the Blue Sky, and on and on and on. 😀
Does psy trance count as alternative? Infected Mushroom - Pink Nightmares (E: link to the better, extended version I thought I’d linked in the first place)
Bonus track - Infected Mushroom The Legend of the Black Shawarma
Ill give you 4 colours.
Purple Yellow Red and Blue - Portugal. The Man.
Zwan - Ride a Black Swan
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZ7550OtqPQNot very alternative, but Nina Simone - Black Is The Color of My True Love’s Hair https://youtu.be/NWmCbEbMmeU
will have a think for a better answer…
Julian Casablancas “Out Of The Blue”
Phrazes for the Young is a great album!
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - the Sara Bareilles cover: https://youtu.be/Ozd2ja7mAgM
Not sure it this really qualifies as alternative? But I’ve recently been enjoying Ilsey’s Heart of Gold cover. Nice to see more collabs of her and Justin Vernon.
red thread - lisa germano
quite interested to know if you can get a good full rainbow going:
r - red sky - pere ubu
o - the orange county lumber truck - mothers of invention
y - yellow country teeth - cyhasy
g - buckingham green - ween
b - blue boy - orange juice (double points?)
i - indigo - moloko
v - violet - holefinish off with the rainbow by talk talk for good measure
might also sneak pink glove by pulp in just before red.
I’m keeping with my first choice, but it might be interesting to to pick a colour.
(blue is illegal, black/white is also too common and not proper colours )here’s some more red - so i might stick with red overall:
blood red bird - smog
murder in the red barn - tom waits
my lips are red - st vincent
brick is red - pixies
my left red eye - worm is green
red sky - acoustic ladylandif acoustic ladyland is permissable, then i might get away with:
red clay - soil and pimp sessions
Bad Religion - The Gray Race (debatable if alternative, though)
Oh BR is def alternative. Never really got near the mainstream!
You might be right. It’s just in case of punk rock bands those are a very well known one. Well at least they were in the 90s.
