I have an Xbox series X and I pre-ordered Starfield a while ago. I can’t install or update it, there’s no options.

Anyone else have this issue?

It is extremely early for it, but they indeed announced that a preload should be possible right now. If OP’s preload isn’t working it’s worth figuring out why now, so that if the issue maintains later it’s not too late to have the game ready to go.

I believe the thinking behind the very early preload is so that the download servers aren’t overwhelmed by the sheer number of people trying to download the game at the same time on release day. By having the preload over a few weeks it allows for a more spaced out period of time where people are downloading it, meaning less load on the servers.

Last I heard, it would be ready “this week”. Since the game won’t be out for a few weeks yet, I think you can be patient and wait for the preload. No matter how slow you internet is, you will still be ready in time.

fwiw preloads are pretty much useless.

When the game actually launches it usually comes bundled with a couple GB of patches.

Huge difference between a couple GB for patches and an initial download of over a hundred GBs if you have slower internet

I was wondering about patches. Although I’d rather have the 125GB done before the 1st.
