“I am seriously considering discontinuing my use of Amazon Echo devices and will caution others about this incident.”
It’s absurd that getting all his property locked down by corporate whim wasn’t enough for him to just stop using amazon’s data harvesting automation ‘tools’.
Reminds me of the Mr.Robot episode where Darlene hacks Madam Executioner’s smart house. At the time I didnt think it was plausible because I doubted anyone would have an entire smart house package that controls everything from the doors to the thermostat. Looks like I was wrong.
Why couldn’t he just make a new account?
I think the company taking unilateral action to remove access to purchased equipment is the real issue, not how to find work arounds.
I could understand them saying we won’t deliver to you until we’ve investigated.
I agree. If I ever do significant home automation, I’ll host it myself.
I have a couple of echos, but I have not made a significant investment into them.
I use Echoes for voice control of automatons that I’ve set up in another system which is all local (home assistant).
That way I could ditch Amazon without too much pain and go with another voice control solution.
