      That’s beautiful. And reading it reminds me of the salamander lighter in Farahnheit 451, and now I know why salamanders are said to represent protection from fire. Thanks!

        Another aspect of the association of salamanders with fire is that they sometimes hibernate in rotted wood. Movement generally doesn’t disturb them too much, but being tossed on a fire will result in the poor fellows scurrying out - giving the appearance that they ‘came’ from the fire. Similarly, as they’re cold blooded, they’re generally not warm to the touch, giving the further idea that they are in some way ‘immune’ to that same fire.
