In anticipation of Reddit’s eventual arrival at the end of it’s product life cycle, what do we want to see here in Lemmy.world?
Here’s an image summarizing how Lemmy works
Here’s Lemmy’s Starter Guide post
r/judo had a weekly white belt thread that I think we should carry over. Perhaps we should do other weekly topics? Maybe a technique of the week?
Also is there anything we can do for re-occurring sub topics like nogi, newaza/bjj, self defense, and getting started / first class expectations / club evaluations?
I think keeping up white belt Wednesday would be good. aside from that I think as topics naturally come up if we as a community notice that there’s a lot of repetition occuring that making weekly megathreads around those topics makes sense.
I’m not necessarily looking at cloning r/judo here, but am open to suggestions for sure.
I’ve not posted about this community over there as it would come across as me trying to “poach” users (especially since I’m one of the mods there) but I saw someone has already posted a link there anyway.
Like many others here, I’m just enjoying the fresh alternative here. Feels a like like Reddit did back around 2014 or so!
Mostly we should just let reoccurring subtopics reoccur.
At least when we’re getting started the more posts and the more engagement that naturally occurs, the better.
This is what I’m currently thinking. I’m not trying to clone Reddit, this platform has different strengths and weaknesses. I would like to see it grow organically and see how the community develops.
If we start seeing more regular patterns in posts (whether the same as from r/judo or not), then we can consider “standardising” some things.
I agree we shouldn’t aim to clone r/Judo. What I’m really interested in what features lemmy has that would be an improvement over reddit.
I would prefer to see more “sticky” threads for common subtopics as opposed to having a reoccurring post for each.
But I’m done with reddit. It’s become to over-run with bots, trolls, and bad-faith mods/admins. I’ve already scrubbed everything I’ve posted on several accounts.
If I may make a suggestion, I think it would be nice to have some kind of weekly general discussion thread - where we can talk about things we learned that week, simple questions, etc.
