I’ve been trying to move entirely away from Reddit’s hpfanfiction, but user growth here is slow. Anyone have ideas? Do we need more posts of recs? Links on author Discords or popular Ao3 fics?

Anyone else working on promotion?

    Weekly recs?

A book club type thing? My mother (and I cannot believe I am about to say this) hosts a book club – members suggest a book, and everyone reads it, then discuss it. (Why am I describing this? People know what a book club is. Sorry).

I realise people have varying levels of free time, but we could do it over a month or two – people recommend a fanfic (agree to ratings or content etc), then we agree to read it via a vote or something, or try to read it, by a given time, then discuss it. Lay down specific rules about type, content, length etc – a 200 chapter one in a month might be pushing it, and people might be uncomfortable about pwp or excessive sex or violence. It should be as inclusive as possible if we want to grow the community :)

We can stack them up in sequence, so this month we vote to read “When Wishes Were Ponies” and next month “Sirius Comes To Godric Hollow” and the month after that “Mister Smith Goes to Washington” (yes I am just making titles up at this point).

Have a specific thread for the given thread and discussion so it doesn’t roam all over the place.

    Something like that?

I’m down. Should we pick something short for the first week?

Yeah, maybe. And something that is just HP (rather than a cross-over for example – I’ve nothing against them but people might not know the fandom it is crossed with).

Maybe a really good fan fiction of HP releasing a firmware update to treat 3rd party cartridges exactly the same as OEM. I’ve no idea how you make it sound realistic though.

      What. Printer ink cartridges?

Yeah, isn’t this Hewlett Packard fan fiction?

Of course it is, it’s just difficult to even imagine, let alone write about things that are certainly impossible.

You realise some people would just take that as a challenge, right?

“Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.” (Matthew 13:12)

More life will be here, more people we will attract. I have to admit that even I have to force myself to go to Lemmy, because there is so little life here interesting for me.
