but does the hit sound work? i have done this with some success but i’ve always wondered…
There is no hitsound for hitting a disguised spy. Little blood particles will still fly when hit by bullets (not explosives, to my knowledge), but that’s easy to miss. If you’re bold enough and/or have no other way out, simply ignoring incoming damage that doesn’t immediately kill you can fool the inattentive.

It doesn’t work often but it’s a handy last trick before getting killed.
