I’m interested in knowing what you guys are using to access this community, whether or not it’s via mobile phone or via laptop or desktop.
If accessing via a laptop or a desktop, what is your OS? Windows, MacOS, or Linux? And if Linux, what distro are you using?
If accessing via a mobile device, you can add in some details about the app you are using or if you’re using it via a mobile browser.
Of course, you guys can add more details.
Just to provide a bit of a background behind the question: I’ve had this preconception that the ones here are among the more technologically-inclined (whatever that means), and thus, I’m curious about the make-up of devices and software used to access and interact with this community.

First of all, thank you to all who’ve responded. While my preconceptions haven’t been shattered, I’m also pleasantly surprised to find out non-techies, refugees from Reddit, who have jumped in to the Threadiverse despite it all. I dunno if that’s indicative of the dumpster fire that is Reddit right now, or the tenacity of those who’ve sought refuge here. Maybe both.
I will be expanding on my thoughts, and others, on a separate reply.

I’m not in the Philippines but found this post on All. I’m using the /kbin PWA icon on my phone mostly. Looks like this.

I mostly use the desktop. My OS is Arch Linux and I use LibreWolf to access Lemmy.

On the times I use my (Android) mobile phone, I use the Jerboa app, which I’ve gotten from F-Droid.
I feel kinda ashamed at how smug I appear here.

Hindi ata eh, but I’ve heard there is a Kbin mobile app incoming–but for iOS.
As far as I’ve read naman, mukhang okay naman daw ang kbin sa mobile browser, so maybe that’s an option?
EDIT: Wait, mali ata ako, it’s for both iOS and Android? Kaso mukhang beta pa lang siya.

Is it better if I disclose that I actually installed Manjaro instead of Arch? (A friend of mine changed it to Arch using some black magic I can’t even understand–all with my permission, ofc.)

Basically, 16GB is enough for long term. I have my laptop here (Ryzen 5 Pro, 1TB NVMe, 16GB 3200Mhz RAM) na napaka-overkill for writings. lol
That’s what I thought too! Kaso parang recently, nakukulangan pa ako. Mejo sakto lang for now ang 16GB for the kind of work I do here.
Since ang talagang target ko sa build na ito is for a workstation kind of a build, akala ko tama lang ang 16GB, but recently, mejo nagsisi akong hindi nag-32GB, lol! Ang lakas kumain ng VScode ng memory eh! 🥹

For me, jerboa on (googled still) samsung A52. Pop!_os 20.40 on two laptops, linux mint xfce 20.3 on a 12 year old laptop. :) librewolf on all three.

Using a laptop (Windows 10, Chrome). I’ve since deleted reddit apps on my phone, and I am waiting for sync to come up with their lemmy alternative.
I’m still holding on to my reddit account to get a list of all the subs i’ve subscribed to, and intend to archive and delete everything once I’m certain there’s a good alternative to reddit, be it Lemmy, or something else.

I installed the chrome webpage as an app. Works identically to the mobile website but I don’t have to deal with the url bar constantly coming and going while scrolling. Planning on switching to sync when that becomes available
I access Lemmy.world on Firefox on my Windows 10 desktop. I also access it from my Surface Pro 9 (Firefox too) which has Windows 11. I haven’t tried it on my phone (android) yet, but I have download Jerboa and will try it out soon.
That’s the first mention of a Windows Surface device in this thread so far. Nice!

I use Google Chrome to get to my instance (Lemmy.world). I’m on a seven-year-old IPad. I have no idea if there are better ways to access Lemmy, or how to find the rest of the “fediverse”, but hopefully the knowledge will eventually seep into my brain. (Did I say it all correctly? I speak some 1980s Geek, but do not know the current version.)
Firefox both on PC (Fedora) and on smartphone (CalyxOS).
But I’m really looking forward to the native app to come outNot using Kbin, but the more ways to access the Threadiverse across various devices, the better!

Linux (EndeavourOS)
To be honest, a while after I installed Manjaro in this machine, I was thinking of distro-hopping to EndeavourOS (and wished I installed it instead when this machine was brand new). However, I was convinced by a friend to just move on to Arch instead.
At any rate, I am under the impression that EndeavourOS is the user-friendly intro to Arch-based distros.
I use Hermit and Firefox and Brave’s “install/add to home’s screen feature”
So is this what I’ve heard about using Lemmy as a progressive web app/page?
