The Associated Press has issued guidelines on artificial intelligence, saying the tool cannot be used to create publishable content and images for the news service while encouraging staff members to become familiar with the technology.

AP is one of a handful of news organizations that have begun to set rules on how to integrate fast-developing tech tools like ChatGPT into their work. The service will couple this on Thursday with a chapter in its influential Stylebook that advises journalists how to cover the story, complete with a glossary of terminology.

I admire AP for this, but how will they know? Especially as companies make ai more capable of mimicking human style.

I think the legal teams are out of control and have a vendetta against the tech because chatGPT passed the bar exam. I’m kinda sick of their blanket bans paired with “but learn to use it” BS.

This is a stupid policy statement. The tech will be used by teams just the same way autocorrect or grammar checkers are used — simply because it’ll be baked into all their editing tools within a couple of years. Similarly they’re going to keep using licensed image libraries and will transition to AI generated images as their licensed libraries transition to the tech.

how about not using it you lazy pieces of shit. the articles the ap puts out are like two paragraphs. fuck.

being an editor at the ap is a dream job for every dingus journalism major who will end up not being able to do shit with their degree and will likely eat mustard sandwiches at an insurance company instead.

if you’re a journalist using fucking chatgpt i want to come to your house and destroy your tight holes.
