I’ve been sold on this for a while. Just waiting for the 16" AMD they announced. The idea of being able to update instead of just holding on for 10 years is… incredibly exciting.

I’m upgrading my 11th Gen Intel (batch 2) framework with a Ryzen 7540 (batch 4 so I’ll be waiting a while) and it feels great. This upgradeability finally paved the way for me to put stickers on my laptop 😂

Framework is amazing and I love their products, but I think it’s also important to not buy new products unless your current one is insufficient. Buying extra items just increases demand (and cost), creates unnecessary ewaste, and is generally bad for the environment.

Now I just need a Framework & System76 partnership. Let framework focus on the hardware (instead of Clevo) and have System76 focus on compatibility. I could see that type of relationship being very appealing for dev shops’ IT departments

I would jump all over this. Their machines are often a bit more than the competition however I am happy to pay it because I consider it my “donation” to open-source development. I can only buy one laptop however and once it comes time to replace mine, I will need to think about which company I want to support more.

I’m sure that people will nit-pick about things that Ashley may have glossed over that we all know & love about Framework, but I like that she gave just enough to (hopefully) induce the following:

“OMG, you can do that with a LAPTOP!?”

    [goes to FW’s web-site]

“Oh, they’re doing ___ with ___!? …and I can ___!? Oh, TAKE ALL MY MONEY!”
