Like, somebody printed a Tumblr blog page and taped it up somewhere?
That’s pretty fucked up
Why would someone ever print off a Tumblr post
Richie Rich mf’er to afford that bubblejet ink, lots of super-rich folks are crazy, it tracks now that i think about it a bit more
I don’t understand this, but I am fully aware that I may just be in the wrong place.
You’re in the right place, all are welcome here. If you followed watches circlejerk on Reddit it would probably make a lot more sense, to be fair. If you’re interested I’d be happy to explain it to you
I’m new. I would like that if it’s not too much trouble.
Yeah sure, that’s fine. Basically, this particular joke is poking fun at Rolex fanboys. If you were to go to a watch-based community, especially one geared towards Rolex, you’d find a lot of Rolex owners have a near cult-like obsession with the brand. Rolex is obviously an expensive watch, but a lot of people treat their watches as incredible pieces of artwork, which they definitely aren’t. They’re still mass-produced. Look at something like an A. Lange & Söhne for watches as an artwork.
The Rolex subreddit is one of the worst for this, with lots of people obsessing over the brand and willing to finance their purchase in order to own one if they can’t afford to buy it outright, which is a ridiculous thing to do on a watch. There’s also tons of posts over there about people getting incredibly upset over getting tiny micro scratches on the case, and basically being afraid to wear something they just dropped $10k on (or more). The brand is also really hard to buy from right now, with waiting lists for certain models exceeding 3 years in some cases, and some stores outright refusing to sell to customers who haven’t purchased tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of watches and jewelry from them. And again, this is for a mass produced product. A very well made one, but mass produced nonetheless.
Anyway, all of that was enough for a subreddit to emerge making fun of those people (as well as other types of watch people, which I won’t get into here but can in another comment if you’d like) called r/WatchesCirclejerk and that’s what this community is based on. The picture in this post is a shitpost, not meant to be taken seriously.
Thanks for this excellent explanation. I am a watch fan but I had no idea Rolex was in this state. As a long time product support guy I do hate to see people losing their mind over micro scratches or signs of wear on things that are being used.
If it wasn’t for Reddit’s sorry state I’d suggest going over to r/WatchesCirclejerk for a good reference (or r/Rolex too for that matter) to see just how bad it is. Maybe in a few months this community will grow and we’ll get to have regular posts making fun of Rolex fanboys. If you see the first post in this community that one is making fun of both people who idolize finally getting the call that their watch is available for purchase, and also at the prevalence for fakes on the market
No Rolexes in major films? One was prominently featured in UHF! You can’t get more major than that.
