    Did I miss the part where they mentioned how this battery tech compares in terms of cost?

    Either way, it’s all just smoke and mirrors unless it is in a shipping product. We’ve heard similar claims for a long time now.

      I don’t think it falls in the same category as the typical sensationalist ‘battery breakthrough’ headline.

      It’s a moderate evolution of an existing and well established technology (LFP) by one of the largest players in the field. LFP is a battery chemistry that has long been neglected due to a lower energy density. But it has a better safety profile, a longer service life, is cheaper and uses fewer rare materials, which are all factors that are becoming increasingly important. So in recent years it has received a ton of R&D funding. It was expected that something would come out of it.

      Sure, but in fairness to CATL, they are arguably the world leaders in EV battery tech, so their claims rank more seriously than most.
