Fuck the Olympics. This stinks of a way to sterilise the city of anything that isn’t new, shiny, plasticky, shit. Let them stay.

It’s appalling to learn that they’re even thinking of taking such measures against antiquity, tradition and history. Absurb!

If by only a fraction you mean over half then I suppose you’re technically not incorrect…

          Hell, 3/2 is a fraction.

I know the saying is implying it is a small fraction, but I really hate the saying because it is so vague. Like pennies on the dollar, it could mean 200 pennies and be technically correct!

If they really wanna do Paris a service they should start by dealing with all the pickpockets and bike thief first. My girlfriend has had 4 bikes stolen so far.

    Souce: I live in Paris

I will never understand why it’s so freaking hard to deal with bike thieves. Should be the easiest thing in the world to catch these people red-handed and make it so that stealing bikes was actually associated with risks. If law enforcement wanted to actually improve the quality of life in cities, it would be an obvious place to start.

Sorry they are way too occupied running after people smoking weed that are the real threat to society

After all it’s a slippery slope to doing cocaine, which is a slippery slope to amphetamines, which is a slippery slope to stealing bikes. They take problem by the roots.

There’s yet to be any proof that increased sentences reduces crime. It’s a social problem, people do what they need to do to live.

I don’t think increased sentences is necessarily where the shoe is pressing, but rather enforcement in general. Right now the risk of getting caught stealing a bike is next to zero, and it’s basically an industry. It’s not primarily poor people who need to steal to afford food, it’s organized groups travelling around stuffing bikes into vans.

Because sanctions are extremely light here in France. On the news recently a Doctor got beaten bloody, and the aggressor walked out free.

In France self defense is frowned upon by authorities sadly.

Unless it’s a cop of course, then they can “defend” themselves all they want

I won’t argue about the police brutality because it exists, but the problem is deeper than that. When the law can’t stop you from stealing, nothing can!

Damn, get her one of those Kryptonite U locks for Christmas, they’re basically indestructible unless you’ve got bike thieves walking around with angle grinders… Which actually sounds like you might.

Stealing techniques are too elaborate these days, literally 10 minutes in the streets is enough for your bike to disappear

Wow what an unnecessary thing to potentially destroy the livelihood of these people. The police sure can find a way to maintain security without moving the boxes, it should not be a big deal.

Without reading the article I am going to assume that the police will start trashing their stands and throwing their books in the river as a means to promote their move. I’m picturing some organized crime style protections racket shit. “if you knew what was good for you, you wouldn’t be here when we get back.”
