In Germany and Sweden yes, sometimes I had a beer or speciality coffe advent calendar, but the Kids mostly have chocklade ones.

Yes in France, with Santa Claus and chocolate. It’s been disconnected from Jesus for a long time.

(Ger) We used to buy ones with toys when I was a kid, but even in my late teens my mother hung up a string of socks filled with sweets.

I think my mother and sister still gift each other ones with tea or skincare samples. Oh, and my grandmother always got us a chocolate one on top of that.

In the UK we usedto do advent calendars and advent candles when I was a kid, but I think the candle was already falling out of favour, and my mum didn’t feel chocolate advent calendars were sufficiently appropriate for a religious symbol, so that all ended as we became teenagers.

In Finland absolutely, it’s essential as kids to have a chocolate calendar. Nowadays I prefer the beer version.

In Denmark we have a “daily” calendar instead, mostly for kids. But the weekly ones exist too
