Honestly as a Snapchat user the constant in app ads for Snapchat plus and the weird feature creep where they add seemingly random features is really pushing me to leave.

The only things keeping me are the fact that it is decide agnostic so I can communicate with my android friends and iOS friends in one group chat, and the core photo sharing functionality. I know most messaging apps allow you to share photos but it’s not quite the same.

99% of pictures I take as a snap I send them that way specifically because I don’t want to save them. Like a random video of some bullshit I have to deal with at work. Send a quick snap and move on with life. One less step of not having to go purge all the stupid pictures I take throughout the day with it.

Many people think their photos / messages that they send in delete after view mode. ( Suprise they arent, everyone can crack that and review the message/picture.) The snapchat AI is bs on another level, you ask him

“Do you know my location” => “No i dont know your location”

“Can you guide me to my next mcdonalds” => “Here is one in 3km at xyz street…” ( Actually correct mcdonalds )

And Data Privacy is not existing. So dont expect if you search something, that ads arent going to popup.

I downloaded it when I downloaded tinder. To this day I still use it to message my girlfriend. It’s honestly the only way to super easily share photos/videos of something random.

Even with apps like Telegram, that have a built in camera function, it’s still too many button clicks. Snapchat is 3. It opens to the photo view, so you tap the shutter button > select friends > send.

With something like Telegram, once you open the app you need to tap on the conversation > photo button > camera view > shutter button > send

Even though it’s just 1 more button, it’s buried, and is overall slower and more cumbersome.

Not to mention no one wants their chat app feeds to be filled with a ton of random shit, or you may send something a tad embarrassing that you don’t want people to have a perfect history to look back on. YEs, screenshots exist, but that’s something you have to actively partake in. My girlfriend isn’t screenshotting my stupid selfies, but if I sent them through a different app she would have all the photos with no required input from her.

EDIT: also snapchat just makes a distinct noise. Yes, I could change the notification sound for Telegram, but then every message that came in would make some annoying sound. Snapchat makes a very distinct sound, so I don’t miss the messages, but also “batches” them, so if someone is typing out a long message in chunks, my phone isn’t just constantly beeping with every message sent.
