    From the article;

    "This was a terrifying ordeal for the victims, and a completely unprovoked attack, which will have a financial impact on these victims.

    That is the most concerning bit. It would have been bad enough if this was the culmination of an ongoing dispute, or retaliation for something significant, but it being completely unprovoked takes it to a whole other level. I hope this offender is not released on bail or home detention, he is clearly dangerous to society

      I hope so too, but I think we both know what will happen.

      A reasonable person would have assumed that the bedroom would be occupied, and that their actions would have a very high chance of causing death - would this not count as an attempted murder? Whatever the charge, this is a prime example of a crime that should result in preventative detention. Clearly this person is fucked up, and we should absolutely be trying to help them deal with their issues, but they cannot be allowed to be out unsupervised among the general public when there is even the slightest chance they might do something so dangerous again

        Quite agree, I would have thought that attempted murder charges would be reasonable here, and yes something like this should result in preventative detention until it is proven that the offender no longer poses a risk, which may not be easy, and should not be
