Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Monday said the US “does not support Taiwan independence” after a meeting with Beijing officials including Chinese President Xi Jinping.

    This is the bullshit of Ruppert Murdoch. Listen, if we wanted to read the populist rags of Murdoch then we would browse his website. I expect much better quality than linking the “new york post”.

    That’s a simple statement of current US policy. The US supports the status quo of limited independence of Taiwan under the government of China.

    Mainly it’s an attempt to not have to fight with China about technologies that are manufactured in Taiwan, while still keeping global access to that tech. As the US and other countries invest heavily in chip manufacturing though, it will become less and less important that Taiwan stay independent.

    This is the diplomatic and appropriate position to take. Neither supporting explicit independence nor a CCP takeover has been the official US position for decades and is favored by a majority of Taiwanese.
