It’s the only browser I have installed besides Safari, and my default browser but instead of just opening the link with my default browser, it advertises these other browsers to me and makes me click ‘Default browser app’ by default. wtf I’ll be turning that off, should have never been a feature.

Does iOS not have like a “default Apps” system?

So if Firefox is your default, what happens when you tap that “open with default app” button at the bottom?

Predatory design for non techy people. It’s a deliberate decision to put that as the most uninviting option. Also creates doubt in the user by not showing any logo/icon

Also, it’s turned on the ask me every time option so you’re likely to be asked a few times as you’re likely to just hit the option you want before realising that there’s a way to turn it off.

I don’t know anything about iOS development, but my guess is that since this is a google app they do show the chrome icon regardless if you have chrome installed or not. If you don’t have it, clicking that will take you to the App Store.

They show safari because that comes on an iPhone that that’s the default default browser (i guess that’s the way to say that?)

I don’t think they have a way to scan your phone for what other apps are installed and list the ones it thinks are web browsers here. What I mean is that I don’t think that it’s technically possible of feasible to display a Firefox icon here. How could it know you have that app?

It makes the choices look strange though. You see the Google suggestions and the Apple suggestions even though those aren’t the default. This is that walled garden in action on both Apple and Google’s side.

Sure, but saying it won’t work with Firefox at all is inaccurate. I hate this menu, but it’s incorrect to say it doesn’t give the option of using Firefox.

Does it matter at the end of the day? If I understand this correctly all browsers on iOS use the Safari engine, and it is not like OP can’t open FF from there.

I don’t believe “calendar” is an option for default apps iirc (someone correct me if I’m wrong)

At least you can uncheck “ask me every time”

Set Firefox as your default browser by going to Settings > Firefox > Default Browser App.

Also, by adding your Gmail to iOS, you can get your Google calendars through the Apple Calendar app.

Except the OP doesn’t have chrome installed the options should be Firefox, Safari, Open with default.

I hate Apple as much as the next guy but this is some next level complaining.

Step 1: Select “Open with Default.”

Step 2: Accept that the mere suggestion that you use literally any option that’s not your preference isn’t a personal attack and the end of the FOSS world.

    Step 3: Profit.

Blame Apple. This is from when Safari was forced to be the default in all cases, so Google hard coded their other browsers to open the link. The possibility to set another browser as default is pretty new, probably Google is waiting to switch to the new API or otherwise people with iPhone 7 or older wouldn’t be able to run the app anymore (no more updates for them)

Maybe it’s not possible to access the new API entirely if you don’t target the latest iOS
