TLDR: Basically, when kids get free preschool, the kids are happier and the parents make more money.

When kids are stuffed in a warehouse and kept alive, the parents make more money but the kids suffer.

So can feeding them. But that doesn’t mean we stop doing it.

It sounds like the author is talking about very real evidence that kids put into universal care programs can have some negative outcomes. The author doesn’t clearly state what the cause of that might be, but they seem to allude to it being because of a lack of funding. Because these child care programs are forced to cut costs, there can be 20 to 30 children per care giver, and that means many children aren’t getting the care they need, at least not fully. The author does not offer a solution.

It seems to me this is a problem of lack of funding. It’s similar to people who complain about the NHS in the UK. I would say most complaints essentially come back to a lack of funding. So, seemingly, if it were properly funded, many if not all problems would be solved, or at least mitigated significantly.

But, people so often also complain about taxes, and increasing funding means increasing taxes. It seems like a fairly difficult thing to sustain, because people always want their taxes lowered.
