I found out today that the head of sales is wanting to retire soon and they hired me to replace him pretty much.

    That’s fucking crazy!!!

I just hosted my first night of trivia and things went well enough. Once I’m familiar with the software things will go smoother and I bet I’ll be able to wrap everything up and get everyone out by 8:30

    Back to Melbs today.

Have to leave my bestie. Sometimes it feels like she’s the only one that unconditionally listens to me (if I have cheese):

    Cat medical

Melbcat is getting a referral because her normal vet doesn’t feel confident handling this. I’m so stressed

Eyy I’m in for the second interview, a culture fit interview.

That’s even after accidentally letting slip “bitch” during the first interview 😂👀 context: he asked what I like to do in my free time, and I listed off gaming and reading, and “watching Dragula, because watching drag queens bitch about each other is strangely hilarious”.

    Phew!

    venting about pain

:::Today is 3 weeks since my back muscle injury started and honestly I’m not sure I have seen any real improvement. It’s less raw sore but the soreness level has gone down, up, down, up, and today is an up day. It’s really starting to affect me mentally. I get woken up in the middle of the night from the pain if I shift in bed. I don’t want to get out of bed most days because laying flat on my back is about the only position where the muscle feels completely “off”. I’ve never had a muscle injury like this that just keeps going and going. Just want this horror to end.

I’m going to assume that you’ve seen a doctor or physio about this. Backs are hard to fix cos just about EVERYTHING you do uses core muscles that attach to your back at some point. Rest can only do so much - maybe a sport physio could help you a bit more than a regular one?

Have you seen a doctor about this? Cos I get that there will be up and down days but it should still be on the decline after 3 weeks.

      so many hugs,

back injuries are debilitating and depressing , literally the nerve pain signals create depression in your brain

do not do anything that causes pain, that only aggravates the injury and makes healing take longer

      I suggest lots of rest

      anti-inflammatories

      hot water bottles in bed

hot baths to relax muscles and tendons and ligaments

read The Back Mechanic to understand your injury and what you can do

      see a doctor

eyeshadow experimentation report, colour no.6 ( Ucanbe make up palette , Hidden Gems )

dove grey, the pigment is intense, very good coverage

and by a complete surprise it looks really nice on me, even suits me! brings out my blue grey eyes. I might use this all the time now.

( I thought grey was going to bring out my the dark circles under my eyes but no! )

Melbcat is going to the vet to be inspected today. I’ll have to remember to put her warm little wheat bag in the carrier before we head off.

My timing today has been good. I managed to time the dog walk so we didn’t get rained on, and I just managed to weed the front yard in between showers too. I have now removed all visible weeds from the front lawn and the worst of the weeds from the nature strip (focusing on the bindi and other prickly things). I also dug up a few patches of the lawn grass to divide and transplant into a dead corner, which may have been killed by overspray of weedkiller from adjacent paths or may just be out of the pattern the automatic sprinklers reach. The dead root system of the turf in that corner should act as a fairly good weedmat, I just tucked the grass between sheets of that and it will get a layer of topdressing soil and some fertilizer and hopefully fill in the dead corner with good grass.

I am now committed to a full body boot camp over the next couple of days. The weather looks like the best it’s going to be for the forseeable future so I’ve booked in delivery of 1.5m of sandy loam, which I then get to shovel into a wheelbarrow for transport to the back yard. I’ve been warming up with carting bagged mulch and compost, so hopefully this won’t kill me too badly.

If all goes to plan there should be enough there to do a bit of top dressing of the tiny patch of grass at the front to even up a few holes and put a bit on the naturestrip to even that up a bit too, but the bulk is going to the back to try to make it a bit less lumpy. I’ll probably want to do another layer in autumn, but I’ll see how it goes.

I have decided the subject of grass varieties and the best blends is way too complicated for my level of interest. I picked one that is not kikuyu based and is supposed to be hardy. It’s from the landscaping company and one they recommend for the area so hopefully it goes ok. I think for a long-term investment if I wanted a good lawn I’d go for buffalo grass, but it’s only available as turf. I think that’s what’s at the front, and it definitely needs less mowing than the grasses at the back.

The need to get the driveway clear is a great motivator. I think I did 2m in one day last year which nearly killed me, but I had to shovel out at the other end into raised planters, this time I can just dump onto the ground so it should be a lot easier.

The next garden boot camp will probably be bulk mulch delivery, which is still a lot of work but a lot lighter. The current mulch is all sugarcane, which is great for the soil because it breaks down quickly, but I want to get some heavier mulch for the paths and around the natives. Probably the weather is going to go from changeable spring (where I am struggling to find enough time to work where it is not raining) straight to summer (where I struggle to find a day that I won’t roast alive). I can probably put it off until autumn if I need to though.
