Fair point, but I’d be curious to see if these are still the highest once you remove all of the reps that are required to own residence in DC (that make a minimum $174K a year)

Edit: I appreciate the feedback from people living in the area. Always nice to learn new info, even when it challenges assumptions.

Actual members of congress are very few in number and aren’t generally the wealthiest people in the area. I doubt it would have much impact.

I grew up in this area and while most people I knew made a comfortable living, the vast majority of people are working white-collar professionals, not capitalist owners or politicians.

Nothing requires a member of Congress to own a residence in DC…

Most rent, a ton basically rent frat houses and split with other reps, and several just sleep in their offices during the week before going home on the weekends.

Loudon, Stafford, Fairfax and Prince William counties in VA make the top ten richest counties in the US list.

Pretty sure Marin Co, CA is number 1 because of Tiburon and Bellevue Island - the most expensive neighborhood in the US.

Manalaplan, Fl, actually. Marin is pretty far down the list after Beverly Hills, Atherton and Menlo Park, Newport, and a few others. Belvedere is tiny.

I grew up in Loudoun county and lived in prince william county for a bit. It’s important to note that the wealth in Loudoun, prince william, and Fairfax counties are concentrated in pretty specific areas. Outside of Ashburn, South Riding, and the western estates of Loudoun it’s not terribly rich. The data centers bring in a ton of wealth though on top of the very large government contracting companies such as Lockheed, Raytheon, GD, etc. Additionally, DC and the surrounding cities just don’t have the density like other cities do, which spreads the wealth out a bit more (while still concentrating it in various counties around the area).
