AlphaTauri on Instagram:

We are delighted that Daniel’s surgery went well and that he is now on the road to recovery. We hope to see him at the track again very soon, but until he is fully fit, we can confirm that Liam, who did a good job in difficult circumstances in Zandvoort, will continue to drive alongside Yuki, starting from our home race this weekend in Monza.

This is such a great opportunity for Liam! I hope Daniel recovers soon and this doesn’t put an end to good comeback, but Liam deserves this chance and did a great job last weekend.

Perhaps, but where does Yuki end up? He’s clearly good enough to end up somewhere imo.

Well, Tsunoda’s contract does expire at the end of this year so it’s technically possible.

Helmut Marko on a contract extension for Tsunoda:

“Of course it depends on further results. But there are already talks with our partner Honda. You can assume it will happen [a contract extension], if you take this year’s performance as a basis.”

So basically if Honda cuts the check then yuki stays, if not then it’s really up to his performance the rest of the year. I think yuki does fairly well but I haven’t seen any indication he would be able to take the Red Bull to the top step or at least podium reliably

I don’t think he’d do better than Checo. Comparisons to Max are needless, but my point stands. I think Yuki would do better at one of the midfield teams, though. Dare I say Aston Martin over Stroll if his contract is expiring as well?

Yea i don’t think he’d do better than Checo either, but I don’t think he’d necessarily do better than stroll either. I just don’t see a place for him where he’d be an improvement AND it would be enough of an improvement over alpha tauri worth breaking the Red Bull ties. AR is debatable as better, haas is a dumpster, Aston isn’t dropping either driver, alpine is happy being super French. The other teams are outside Yukis current merit

Yuki has been very consistent this season, that used to be the Hallmark of Checo. I think RB demands consistency out of their second driver and will want a known F1 commodity, so who else fits the bill?
