They say that power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. But I beg to differ. True absolute power does not corrupt. It frees. Because once you have everything you ever wanted, fulfilled every fantasy you ever had, and achieved everything you strived to achieve, what else is there? How long before you realize the truth. That you can use this absolute power for something greater, for someone different than yourself? It might take decades or even hundreds of years, but I believe every human has the capacity to realize this. Once you have absolute power, there is nothing that can stand in your way, and you can do something good for others.

I don’t think I convinced anybody of my point with that tirade, but let me try to explain it differently. Imagine you are a god. No, actually, imagine you are THE God. Big G and everything. With infinite power, you can do anything. The only constraints are the laws of physicis, and even that is debatable. Once you have fed your ego to the point that it bursts, what else is there? Once you are bored with all the things you can do, once you have done everything, what do you have to look forward to? With all that power, would you just try to keep it to yourself forever, or do something useful with it? Is that not when empathy rears its head?

And by no means I am saying that powerful people deserve or should be given more power than they already have. This is just a thought experiment.
