So… What types of loud music do you tend to favor?

Anything fast and silly wins me over, and that usually comes from Powerviolence or Grindcore. Spazz, Ratbomb, Excrementory Grindfuckers, Romantic Gorilla, Charles Bronson, etc. anything that promotes unabashed hyper fun.

Punk also has a very special place in my heart. I grew up in the california punk scene of the 90’s and it really impacted how I view the world and approach situations. Dead Kennedys, Antischism, Crass, Black Flag, Subhumans, etc. we all know the bands lol.

(unrelated sidenote: i can’t reply to this post here in Noise - https://lemmy.fmhy.ml/post/212141 - I get the eternal circle of loading when I try to reply. weird. it’s an awesome album though!)

My formal training is in crust punk and grindcore, but I’ve been known to dabble in some brutal death metal, mincecore, and powerviolence.

Into all sorts of extreme metal, which was largely my gateway into more noisy stuff. I highly appreciate the weird, the unique, the dark and esoteric. Willing to weather the inaccessible as long as it brings something to the table.

As far as noisier stuff is concerned… power electronics are good for me, a fair amount of ambient noise and ritual ambient. All of this is dictated by my mood as I hop all over the place when it comes to what I listen to. Always looking for new and different stuff as well, in all genres. The search and when it rewards is a highest pleasure.

Namedrops = stuff like Murmuüre, Theologian, Gruntsplatter, Yen Pox, Funerary Call, DNA, Mars, Swans, Sutcliffe Jugend, Brighter Death Now etc., etc.

I like pretty much anything that’s fuzzy and weird. Most of it being riff based. I was The Grunge Kid™ as an early teenager and got into The Melvins. From there is a massive web of bands tracking their influence from stuff like Eyehategod and Sunn O))), to Mudhoney and early Nirvana. Noise-rock and Doom Metal is probably my most listened, with a decent amount of classic punk like Minor Threat and Germs in there.

My favourite stuff is the type where it just sounds like they put a single mic in the room, cranked the gain knob, and started yelling. Raw manic energy. It seems like there’s been a resurgence in that kinda stuff the past few years, and I’m here for it.

(Not too sure what’s up with not being able to post. I know this instance has been having bugs with Lemmy’s back end, admins have been needing to reset the servers every few hours apparently until we get an update, hopefully soon)

Fu Manchu (especially the earlier era), Sleep, Sword, Eyehategod, Acid Bath, Earth (Earth 2)

When I fell like it, I listen to Hijokaidan or Hanatarash a bit.

Also Research Reactor Corporation has some “nice” songs.

And last but not least, My Bloody Valentine and entire album Loveless
