I‘m guessing the port change would be the only change then.

They’ve got at least another year or two with this generation. There were a few years between the first generation and second generation pros, and a couple years between the second and third generation regular air pods.
The new generations came out less than a year ago.
Yeah it’s probably similar to the wireless charging case they released some time ago. I think that was the only change and you could also buy a case by itself.
Now that apple is using USB C instead of lighting I am finally planning on giving iOS a go, as a long time android user. If the airpod pros also have a USB C version I’ll also buy those since my current earbuds are aging, but if they’re still lighting only I’ll probably buy Sony. So I can keep using the same charging cables for everything.
As someone who made the switch when they introduced faster induction charging:
I hated myself for not using apple any sooner.
Around 2017 was the earliest time I would have recommended switching. Before that iOS was sorely lacking many standard features. Apple tends to be around 3-5 years late when it comes to adding features to iOS, and that has always made it feel like a toy instead of a mobile computer.
However, nowadays you can almost call it a proper operating system that actually gets the job done. Apple is getting closer and closer one millimeter at a time, but they’re getting there. Eventually iOS might actually be good. For the time being, it’s a little better that just barely acceptable, which is absolutely remarkable.
For a very very long time an infuriating number of standard features were missing and that meant that Android was the only viable option for me. Before 2017 iOS was so much behind that I absolutely would not have recommended an iPhone to anyone who might have technical requirements of any kind. For everyone else though, it’s not a problem that you can’t tweak stuff you don’t know even exists. You just use all the default settings and you’re happy with whatever Apple decided for you.
90% of the experience is great. 10% of the experience is wondering why anyone sane would choose the UI or functionality as the default method and not provide any way to alter it. If you’re someone who wastes time on setting up your UI just the way you like it, consider it a bonus that you get that time back.
Oh, and if you get an LTE AppleWatch to go with it, the watch will occasionally “forget” that it has a plan and silently switch to bluetooth only - and can’t be re-enabled on the LTE network without the phone. Not that I’m bitter about that time it happened when I didn’t have my phone and I got stranded.
I switched to iOS recently. It mostly feels bad being so locked down honestly. It doesn’t do anything special or good beyond battery life.

Just just did that last year. The second gen air pod pros released in September. They usually do 2-3 years between headphone generations.

Maybe they can fix the fucking microphones on the pros. The 2nd gens are maybe worse than the 1st gens which already sucked. I get so many complaints and recently just broke down and bought a pair of wired headphones just for video calls. Great headphones, but just laughably bad for calls.
This is a Bluetooth problem, it doesn’t have the bandwidth for two high quality audio streams.
I don’t really buy that because I know people with other BT headsets that don’t have this same problem. When I have phone or video calls using my Pros everyone complains that I sound quiet and far away and they can barely hear me. It’s not even a matter of quality, they can barely even hear me. Better yet, I even have some people complain sometimes that fairly mild background noise is louder than my voice.
The mics just suck.

Yes, but will they sell replacement cases with USB-C for existing users. Ideally for less than it costs to buy an entirely new pair of buds with the C case.
Probably, yeah. They did that with the AirPods case when they added wireless charging to it. They have a case available for $79 when a whole new set of AirPods was $180
