Unfortunately the cat didn’t make it. The damage was too severe. The vet at the hospital said it was more humane to let go.

I did the best I could.

Horrible decision, but I think you did the right thing. Think of how the poor kitten must have felt - a serious injury AND getting used to living in a human world AND being separated from mum and the other kittens. Would have been so stressed out. It hurts I know, but with animals, I reckon quality of life is the deciding factor.

Agreed. The vet was almost sure that they wouldn’t have been able to survive even with the best care.

Im definitely upset, but I did the best I could in this instance and in general. They haven’t gone hungry for almost 18 months. I’ve had to accept there are limits to what I can do apart from making sure they’re fed and have access to clean water.

All the rescues are full and have been full this whole time.

        It still fucking sucks.

I have a wedding to attend in a couple of weeks, and the dress code is cocktail attire. I do not own any item of clothing that would fit the definition of “cocktail”. So hopefully savers has a dress that meets that definition, I mean the dress racks there are usually chock full so I ought to find something.

(I just realised I think I might have a couple of weddings I’ll have to attend this year, so I should make sure the savers dress is good quality 😂)

Thank you Briongloid for posting today’s DT, and providing links to remain savvy!

Would you like a black lace cocktail frock? I have one I got from an op-shop for a particular event. Its a wrap around style so it’s quite forgiving for fit. Very well made - I think maybe originally a designer style, certainly quite high-end. You can have it for free if you want as it’s just taking up space in my wardrobe and I don’t think I’m going to wear it again. Was going to donate it once my local Vinnies starts accepting clothing donations again - they aren’t at the moment as they are chockers.

I found one of the strays with a broken leg and eventually wrangled him? into the cat carrier and we’re at the animal hospital near my place.

I had 2 options. Take ownership or surrender. So I took ownership. I couldn’t abide letting them end up at the lost dogs home.

So congrats Gibson. You will eventually have a friend. (hopefully they’re friends).

Edit: Unfortunately it looks like they were hit by a car and may not be able to go to the bathroom by themselves in which case they will sadly have to be euthanised.

I haven’t seen my stray for a week or so. I keep putting the food out and refreshing the water. Something is eating it. I don’t think I’ll buy anymore food if I don’t see the cat again. Hopefully someone else has adopted it.

If he’s a boy and much younger, then it may well work out. The real problems are when you introduce two female cats to each other. Especially if they are the same or similar ages. Guaranteed cat fights in that scenario. Has Gibson been spayed?

Holy fuck, thanks for helping him dude.

I’ve seen options for cats that need assistance (you manually squeeze the urine out for them by pressing their bladder) but it’s an around the clock thing and you’d have to think about his quality of life.

Either way he’s so lucky you’re looking out for him.

I figured I have lived thru so many food fads ( husband’s family are pretty insane in this regard adopting every fad without question ) , that I am so now over it and have very little patience for it all.

I have an especial lack of patience for people thinking “ethnic” foods are by default better or that anything from a health food shop is healthier.

Studies have shown the best diet to adopt is the Mediterranean diet because of the inclusion of fresh fruit & veg, fish, lean meat, oil, yogurt, nuts, seeds & grains. Less red meat and processed food.

The second is Japanese because of fish, fermented food and green tea.

      You don’t need anything else.

Our family’s meals are generally fresh meat and veggies with fruit as snacks. Yes we have some processed stuff in the fridge (condiments and sauces) and pantry (crackers, biscuits etc).

Our kids’ friends are generally surprised how fresh we eat, when they come over for dinners.

My daughter did a food survey with her friends. What you eat and what you don’t. Some of them had never tried certain foods including some vegetables. She ticked off everything except spring onion and coriander. Made me proud.

I heard something about you could live on potatoes and milk for vitamin D. They’re a very nutritious food in terms of being calorie dense I reckon

Has to be spuds with the skin still on (vitamin C lives just under the skin and usually gets peeled off), whole raw milk (vitamins A & some Bs and some protein and a lot of fat) OR butter, and a supplemental protein source - such as oily fish (vitamin D) or meat or cheese. If you peel the spuds, you’ll need a supplement such as fruit. The classic Irish diet that the potato famine of 1840s pretty much wiped out and triggered mass migration to USA and here.

Yeah. I wouldn’t be game for raw milk… a cheap family dish used to use oily tinned fish and cheese as the supplemental protein with steamed veg on the side.

Edit: There was also butter and milk in the mash

it’s using a simple formula of the cooling effect of moving air

except the law is for air of similar or cooler temp, not warmer air
