Any minute now
Annual budget-cleaning operation is underway!
Uh, they’ve done a LOT of good shit dealing with this type of stuff over the decades. I guess for some people it will never be enough or good enough and everything is shit and nothing ever happens. Yet somehow, it does.
Right after they abandon Daylight Saving Time.

Easy, we will demand the USA only uses open source software to mine all the data we’ve given and are still giving them access to. And they better not refuse or we will, well, we will, you know, we will. Surely we will something. Maybe we could threaten them to hold our breathe collectively for as long as they don’t comply?
“Europe must regain control over its software supply chain to safeguard freedom, security, and innovation”
The same Europe, under the exact same leadership that (among way too many other compromises) agreed to purchase more US weapons instead of buying EU-made ones? Sure…
The same Europe, under the exact same leadership that (among way too many other compromises) agreed to purchase more US weapons instead of buying EU-made ones? Sure…
The main one being Patriot air defense systems and missiles. The main issue with that is that Ukraine needed them yesterday. It is just impossible to replace those production capacity quickly. Although that is happening with SAMP/T and IRIS-T SLX. Some are also meet using less capable shorter range European systems like IRIS-T. For other systems, it is usually a similar story.
Sure. but that war is lost (and if we had less… leaders less willing to do what US want them to do, it should have been declared so at least two years ago). Now, the priority should not be in buying more US weapons (making us poorer, while making US that is not our ally anymore richer, retarding our own rearmament while Russia (and the USA) are happily working on their own). Our priority should be in making the EU an essential partner in making peace a reality bteween all parties (which also mean we should be willing to listen a little, just a little, to Russia). More weapons needs to be purchased (purchased within Europe) but now what’s needed is a somewhat smarter diplomacy. And a lot less va-t-en-guerre as we say in France: threatening Russia while we’re not able to fight won’t end well without the USA to back us. And the USA won’t back us like they made it clear, I think.
That’s just my very uninformed opinion, obviously.

Your support for the Russian invasion paves the way for American and Chinese imperialism
Ok, as it seem I’ve been identified my only option is to go back to dear Russia motherland. Congrats on spotting me, I suppose.
@Libb You know, hindsight is 20/20 as they say and many will hate to admit it, but de Gaulle was right and maybe we should have depended less on the Marshall plan and we might not be in that dependant bind we are in now. But considering what we have to deal with, I will settle for MOST procurement going to European manufacturers with the intent to switch to full autonomy or work with reliable partnerd like Canada or Japan.
I would think it’s a wise choice too, whether people agree with it or not. What worries me is the willingness of the EU to act as things had not changed, at least since the April tariffs & the subsequent actions and… threats toward EU, like if most the EU leaders were unable to… just watch was happening. But like I said that’s more akin to a gut feeling, a bad taste in the mouth, and it certainly is not an informed opinion.
@Libb Take the purchase of F-35 by Germany. That is another dirty move of coercion by the US. They refuse to ratify European jets for use with the B-61 now the Tornados have to be replaced. The Eurofighter can carry it but its not allowed to. So they force the F-35 on Germany. Not doing it is to step outside the nuclear umbrella and rendering yourself vulnerable to Russia. The only alternative would be sharing weapons with France in the long term if they are willing to do that.
The sad thing is that a little bird just told me there was no ‘nuclear umbrella’ anymore, not from the US at least. Nor from the UK (edit: since part of their nuclear arsenal is controlled by the USA), while the French one, if it’s effective and controlled by no one but France (and our president did mention he was willing to extend it to other European countries) is not large/powerful enough to do more than damage Russia. NATO is now merely an excuse for the US to easily pressure their ex-allies (us and all the others).
Meanwhile, the USA are busy preparing their war against China by invading, sorry, I mean by liberating whatever place and resources they consider a must have… To which one may rightfully object that telling one of your biggest allies they can go fuck themselves may not be the wisest choice ever while you’re preparing for your own little 3rd world war… But I would not call that administration, nor its president, the wisest either. To their credit, I will admit they’re one of the most focused I’ve seen on achieving their stated objectives, that’s impressively obvious, but that doesn’t make these objectives any wiser.
The US does not control the UK nuclear arsenal. There’s cooperation between them but the deployed deterrent subs are fully independent.
Thx for the clarification, I will update my post to reflect that
@Libb That is factually incorrect. The UK Tridents are under their control. That was part of the agreement made by MacMillan. They may depend on parts etc for maintenance though, I am not familiar on the details. But they can fire them unilaterally if they decide to.
The B-61s indeed I consider it doubtful that they would be released if we need them. But for now, the mere presence of the damned things will have to suffice for now.
Like with remote_control_conor, thx for the clarification, I updated my comment to somewhat reflect that.

Let’s see…

Opensource software is the way.
