Not assisting the people of Minneapolis.
This is a developing story, and I would like to give Walz the benefit of the doubt that he wants those cops there to make sure no other protesters get killed, until proven otherwise.
It’s a very slim hope, but those are the only ones we have left. I don’t think your cynicism or the resulting criticisms are misplaced though, and I fear you might be right.
It bears mentioning that ICE has been aggressively harassing non-white cops as well, and the cops are getting pissed too, because they thought they were safe, and they’re definitely not.

After the shooting, an angry crowd gathered and screamed profanities at federal officers, calling them “cowards” and telling them to go home. One officer responded mockingly as he walked away, telling them: “Boo hoo.” Agents elsewhere shoved a yelling protester into a car. Protesters dragged garbage dumpsters from alleyways to block the streets, and people who gathered chanted, “ICE out now,” referring to Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.
One of these days the angry crowd is going to be better armed than ICE is, and decide that there will be justice
