Maybe conscript retirees to do childcare. Or get billionares to pay for it. Or just accept that infinite growth is unsustainable.
It seems like there must be more to it than “just” money. I absolutely believe that the money makes a difference, of course, but anecdotally it seems like there’s also just not so much interest in having kids. At least amongst my friends, mostly somewhere in their 30s, easily half of us just don’t want any regardless of their financial or relationship situation
That DINK lifestyle is hard to beat. But I also suspect it is largely about time, and with more women than ever working: who’s got time for that?
We’re already seeing this decline as school rolls and class sizes reduce.
