Streaming services had their big day during the pandemic when everyone was home and had time to watch endless content. Every studio and tech company thought they could have their own service that people would pay to just watch that studios content.

Now they’re realizing how expensive it is to host all that content themselves and how people don’t want to recreate the cable experience by having 15 different accounts to watch tv. If HBO is ceding some ground to Netflix, they must not be feeling great about HBO Max or whatever they’re branding it today

Sony realizing they didn’t have the catalog to justify their own service looks smarter and smarter every day.

Yeah just sit back and rake in huge profits from renting the content you own to other streamers, why bother trying to get into that hyper-competitive business yourself?

I really hope that this kind of non-exclusive deal becomes more standard. Would be great to get to a future where each streaming platform has all of the content you want like how with music everything is on both spotify and apple music.
