Hello!

Proton Pass has piqued my interest. Currently, my family uses 1Password. Any 1Password converts in the community? If you are, what were Pass’ pros that won you over? Any cons that you’d suggest a person weighing a switch from 1Password keep in mind?

Let’s discuss! Thanks!

Pass isn‘t yet polished and there are bugs here and there showing up. Also the AutoFill doesn‘t work 100% of the time. And there are features missing like e.g. being able to upload attachements.

Considering the age of Pass vs 1Password, there is way to go for Pass. I made the switch, nevertheless, and once I got used to Pass, it‘s not that bad from my Point of view.

Surely the „create Alias‘ on the fly“ is a big plus, ehich I absolutely love and wouldn‘t want to miss anymore

Thanks for sharing your point of view and insight. What’s your opinion on 1Password’s bloat? Do you think it is? Pass appears to have a much more pared down set of features–at least for now. Any specific features from 1Password you miss, like passport ready templates or software licenses? I’m sure those can be duplicated in Pass by using notes.

tbh I just worked around it (like e.g. with Notes or with uploading the files to drive and just have a link in my Pass to it). I’m pretty happy with Pass, even though it misses some features (of which some will be added in the future for sure). Since I was using other Proton Apps before already it was kind of a no-brainer for me and once I got used to (and accepted that I might be kind of an early adopter) I never looked back.

    Have you checked out Bitwarden?

Recently converted from 1Password to Protons pass, and personally could not be happier. For me the email alias feature pass offers is super nice. And for me, the auto complete works somehow better on pass than it did on 1Password. I also think you get more for your moneys worth with Proton as their other services are very nice too 😊

As a person using 1Password and Bitwarden (just bringing that up as people always recommend Bitwarden in such threads), I personally do find 1Password much better, cleaner, easier. The only downside for me is the open source part, however personally I cannot check that anyway.

For me personally regarding Proton Pass <-> 1Password, there are yet too many features missing and I pefer the UI of 1Password as well, especially with nowadays smartphone display sizes and not having to use both hands to search an item.

What is really cool at Proton Pass is the integrated alias feature.

As someone that just switched from LastPass to 1Password… having a TPM 1.2 resulting in me having to use my full password every day is really annoying… but the 1Password app integration (on iOS) is far superior, and the browser integration is really good. 1Password seems to be the peak of the curve right now for password managers, I’ll probably sign up for a year after my trial. Proton Pass did not appear on my list of options when switching last week, but the lack of from filling (credit cards) kills it for me.

I switched from 1pw to lastpass then bitwarden then 1pw again and finally ended up with proton pass. Autofill is better on my phone, aliases on the fly, plus it’s free with my proton subscription.
