In a significant development, the Biden administration is preparing to ship armor-piercing munitions containing depleted uranium to Ukraine, marking the first time such weaponry will be sent to the country. This information was revealed in a document seen by Reuters and independently confirmed by two U.S. officials.

In case anyone was wondering why they use depleted Uranium, it’s not nuclear warfare it’s for their density and effectivness at piercing armor

First deployed on a large scale during the Gulf War, the U.S. military uses depleted uranium (DU) for tank armor and some bullets due to its high density, helping it to penetrate enemy armored vehicles.

I don’t think that there’s much use for that in knocking out anything lighter than an MBT, so I assume that Ukraine expects to use them in a role where there may be tank-on-tank fighting.

It’s not even really news worthy, it just has the word “uranium” so it generates clicks. Depleted uranium rounds were also supplied with the Challenger MBT from the UK. It’s just part of the kit.

Hasn’t the UK already supplied them with depleted uranium munition earlier in April?
