Plenty of companies made plenty of money before the internet and loads of ads, ads now are just pure greed.
Right, but before the internet, typically you either purchased the medium like a newspaper or magazine, which also usually contained ads, or watched TV that contained ads, or listened to the radio which contained ads. Also, sponsored content existed long before YouTube; remember Ralphie in A Christmas Story decoding the message from the radio show?
It’s the same shit with Hollywood for example. Well that movie only made us 10million dollars. What a flop, we won’t do that again. Imagine any other “company” working like that. Imagine a plumber finishing up a big ass job, all the expenses and salaries are paid, so it’s already a success. It’s not a success because he made 200k more than expected
The problem is that there no funding structure that would rid the influence of money on reporting biases
Wait, wouldn’t public funds bias the news reports towards public benefit?
No because authoritarian leaders can influence it
Trump represents americans very well: this is just a fucking dumb nation.
I personally don’t think news organizations should make money, like at all, they each and every one of them needs to decay into the sawdust they are worth.
We live in the information age if you have something worth knowing it will instantly be known by everyone in the world wether you like it or not.
The only purpose of News Organizations since the invention of the internet is to change the truth to a more convenient lie.
If the only way you can figure out how to get paid is by changing the Truth then you fundamentally have no purpose and are an adversarial bad actor that is parasitic and hostile.
Gotta be one of the most reddit comments I’ve ever seen on Lemmy
I don’t think you understand how journalism works.
I don’t think you understand journalism doesn’t work.
Good to know, thanks for the info
