This is my theory on Garfield’s dislike of Mondays - he is a cat, Jon going away is the only meaningful difference.
Isn’t Jon a cartoonist? The only thing that happens is he goes into his home office and sits at his drawing table.
Perhaps he closes the door for fear of a cat dropping all his stuff of the desk?
Jon would have to leave to run errands, e.g. post office, bank etc
