    Explanation: In WW2, the Soviet Union initially invaded Poland jointly with the Nazis. Later, the Soviet Union swapped sides and helped fight the Nazis. After the Nazis were defeated, the Soviet Union would claim to have ‘liberated’ Poland from the Nazi menace!

    Of course, they annexed a good deal of Polish territory, occupied Poland, and ran a police state over Poles with Soviet officials holding all the real power, turning Poland into not much more than a vassal of the Soviet Union.

    But hey! Less genocide! That’s… better than the Nazis, at least. :/
