Uh, yeah. Tech workers are getting laid off after record earnings with the excuse of “AI”, while at the same time being told to work a minimum of 60 hours a week to build “AI” systems. All while getting less than 1% raises living in some of the most expensive metro areas in the world.
I wish I could start a farm, a cafe, or some other shit and never work as a tech worker again.
I had a team of friends and mentors. Then the owner decides to return to office, no exceptions. Now my friends and mentors have moved on. No one that left has been replaced but the word went from “no one will be replaced with AI” to “we’re trying out AI instead of filling those positions”. I and the people I care about are disposable to this whole industry.
What blows my mind are the “get an education in computers today!” commercials I still hear on the radio and other various ads. Like no, this job is not recession proof, the best you can hope for is to own enough systems that your employer will think twice before firing you.
