Under Trump’s “America First” ethos, Washington has upended the “rules-based international order” of the past with sharp-elbowed policies that have isolated the U.S. on the global stage. This includes slow-walking aid to Ukraine, threatening NATO allies with economic punishment and withdrawing from major international institutions, including the World Health Organization and the United Nations Human Rights Council. His punitive liberation day tariffs, as well as threats to annex Greenland and make Canada “the 51st state,” have only further strained relationships with top allies.
germany, france, uk, denmark and canada (aka the countries in this paragraph) are playing ball in attacking iran and it makes me think that strengthening ties with china is little more than a child of divorce threatening to move in w one parent to seek retribution against the other parent.
I expect they will be forced to increasingly trade with China simply because there will be civil unrest if these economies continue to collapse. There’s nobody else to turn to, so if these regimes want to survive they have to engage with China.
the iran war has made me realize that the countries i mentioned are behaving the same way that the racists i grew up with in the american southwest are like; they’re perfectly fine with dismissing their racism when it benefits them, but they’ll do whatever it takes to show their true character whenever they feel the situation calls for it and it makes me hope that the chinese are aware that no amount of checkbook diplomacy will ever change this fact.
something tells me that the chinese are as ignorant of the american style of racism as are the mexicans when they prime-time televised trump’s visit during his first election to dispel accusations of racism. they did it out of ignorance of how american racism works despite sharing a massive land border and very significant cross-cultural sharing over the last 2 centuries and; if a country with that much inter-mixture is still unaware; then i doubt very much that the chinese are as well.
I think the Chinese are starting to realize that the US is simply impossible to work with. You don’t have to understand the internal dynamics of how racist the US really is to see how they consistently behave. Any deal you make with the US, they ultimately renege on and stab you in the back. Eventually, the pattern becomes clear. China just happens to be really patient, and they they’re generally risk averse. So, they consistently humor the US while quietly making plans to insulate themselves.
that would explain why they’re keeping an arm’s distance away from their trade partners that have been attacked by the us.
It’s a smart strategy because the longer these countries have to suffer abuse, the more desperate they will be when they come to their senses and decide to make deals. China can focus on establishing stronger ties with friendly countries in the meantime putting itself in increasingly stronger position to weather the crisis.
