I work in several schools as their IT support and handle dozens of chromebooks every day…the amount of shit schools throw out is horrific. I threw out 10 cisco 2960 switches at the start of summer just this year.
“We bought under-spec’ed gear that got old quicker and now we’re surprised so it’s news”
A laptop shouldn’t “expire”.
You’re not wrong at all, I work in IT and we deal heavily in equipment lifecycle management and the schools dealing with this are the ones who went bottom-dollar cheap instead of exercising a little common sense. Chromebooks are a scam.
I resell Google and the costs of device management alone are absurd, let alone what you’re asking schools to spend annually to support the Gmail licenses needed to login into it. It’s all a farce and it’s my opinion that we need to start bringing cloud services back in-house and we need to invest in better Internet infrastructure to support it. We only went to the cloud in the first place because of shitty Internet companies nickel and diming everyone and not giving us good enough Internet at our offices or houses to just keep up with the tech our clients want to use.
