This is beginning to look more like a semi-solid electrolyte NMC cell (or quasi-solid). When a cell like that loses vacuum, the gel-polymer electrolyte will start drifting, because the vacuum is there to maintain electrode wetting. If you lose wet surface area, you’ll lose capacity, which is exactly what happened here. A fully solid cell shouldn’t do that.

Honestly this is so far from any knowledge I have that I can’t even begin do guess what’s happening here. Someone said it could be delaminating layers as well, resulting in the 17% thickness increase.

I don’t get what point they’re trying to make with the 50 cycles and 50% battery degradation… Like you chose to show this to the world. A nail penetration test would have been more interesting if it can withstand it.

Well, at least it illustrates that a thermal runaway reaction didn’t occur, which is nice.

Beyond that though, I think all of these tests are basically self-sabotaging. Anyone who knows even a little bit about batteries, knows to steer clear of that company. However, that’s not the target audience, so self-sabotage is perfectly fine.

Scam emails from the Nigerian prince look pretty suspicious to anyone who isn’t severely demented. The scam prince doesn’t even want to talk to them, so if they stop reading after the first three words, it’s perfectly fine.

          So you think it’s 100% a scam?

I think it all depends on the hölzinger guy at ct coating and whether they figured something out or not. He has been working on “nanopaste” for a long time, I even saw a yt video of him with some kind of nanopaste emitting light on a thin fabric. Dunno how that would work without LEDs but whatever. Resistive hearing is trivial, solar they worked on with Mercedes maybe and then there’s batteries. So I guess most likely he’s the main bullshitter spreading his scam over the years?

He has a homemade battery on his yt channel from years ago. Like why would he keep all of this going for so long just for a scam?

          It’s incredibly weird.

If there is something here, which I think is fairly unlikely, then it’s still going to be hard to bring to market of course.

Yeah, I think it’s a scam, but credit where credit is due. These guys really know what they’re doing.

The hype train is S-tier, and they’ve mastered media and online content manipulation. Their tests are just intriguing enough to grab attention, but ultimately useless for anything meaningful.

Some parts of this operation clearly require real battery expertise, so I’m convinced they’ve had professional help at some point. Either that, or they’ve grilled GPT relentlessly to craft this story. For example, designing those experiments isn’t trivial. You have to reveal just enough to hook people, but not so much that the illusion cracks. It’s a delicate balancing act, and Donut Lab nailed it.

The tests also suggest they managed to get their hands on some high-end cells from an established manufacturer. Likely semi-solid NMC cells, though we’ll probably find out more later.

Most of their claims aren’t completely idiotic. The cycle life and production ramp-up schedule are pure sci-fi space opera, but everything else sits just on the edge of plausibility. Crafting claims like that takes effort. If you just pulled claims out of your ass with zero research, you wouldn’t end up with a spicy saga like this.

The way they drip-feed information every week is just brilliant. If these guys don’t go underground or end up in jail, the gaming industry would hire them in a heartbeat.
