Huh, lately I’m watching nothing but movies made pre 2010 and mostly pre 2000.
This is surprising. Clearly I haven’t been watching any TV lately, as I wasn’t aware of AI being more invasive in that space than… YouTube, out of all platforms? YT is plagued with the stuff. Never thought it would be considered a refuge against it for some??
Edit: the headline refers to UK only and specifically about news outlets. People prefer their news from YT. And the link with ai for this metric in particular is unclear. I’d say the headline is misleading
I have a “Shorts blocker” installed and only watch channels I’m subscribed to or recognise. Every time I click on a new creator it turns out to be AI Slop.
I imagine it’s harder than ever to break through as a genuine new creator on YouTube now.

If thats how you use youtube already, I highly recommend installing Freetube. It doesn’t even have a “recommend” page, it only shows the channels you subscribe, it has built in sponsorblock, no ads, no data sent to google, the “trending” and “most popular” feeds rarely work (thats a good thing!), you can disable pretty much everything you want, shorts, community tab and so on. And its light, I have a ancient laptop that takes 3 hours to load all the bullshit that is on the youtube website, with Freetube its some seconds and off it goes.
Yeah, I think thats how it is everywhere in corporate media platforms now, sadly. Ai all over, algorithms not really favoring discovery
That gives me a good idea for a post sometime down the line. “What are your favorite YT channels under 500k followers” or something like that. I don’t mind if someone else wants to steal the idea but hey let me know where you post it…
Where does it say that? This is a hugely dense study, and this headline feels like cherry picking
Men ditching slop for more slop.
