I’m coming into the live action as someone who could never get into the One Piece anime. It feels very faithful to the little I know about it from friends or family.
I think live action adaptations can often feel embarrassed by the source material, trying to downplay outlandish costumes or silly behaviors, when it’s those personalities and appearances that make the show as charming and wonderful as it is.
One Piece feels like an adaptation by fans who understand when to compromise with the limitations of live action and when to stand firm to the spirit of the show.
I hope it continues in that spirit, as it helps me see what the serious fans of the show love so much.
Yeah, this show did a great job of staying as an anime in live action. The main thing I’d like to see improved is the addition of more of the humor that makes One Piece so great!
I don’t know about that. I kinda like the tone they were going for. In an anime you can get much more silly and get away with. With a live action adaptation it can get really weird
