The European Commission has today designated, for the first time, six gatekeepers - Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, ByteDance, Meta, Microsoft - under the Digital Markets Act (DMA). In total, 22 core platform services provided by gatekeepers have been designated. The six gatekeepers will now have six months to ensure full compliance with the DMA obligations for each of their designated core platform services.
Example of the “don’ts” - Gatekeeper platforms may no longer:
prevent users from un-installing any pre-installed software or app if they wish so
Good.
Full list of gatekeepers’ core platform services that must comply with the Digital Markets Act:

- N-IICS (aka messaging services): WhatsApp, Messenger
- Intermediation: Google Maps, Google Play, Google Shopping, Amazon Marketplace, Apple’s App Store, Meta Marketplace
- Video Sharing: YouTube

How about iMessage? Last i heard they petitioned against it.
It’s still under evaluation, so it might be added later.
TikTok is truly a gatekeeper service on par with Facebook and Google. Whatever will people do without their tiktokthots?
